Part 1: Course Topic Selection
- [ ] Use ChatGPT to brainstorm a list of at least 20 potential course topics aligned with your skills, interests, and expertise.
- [ ] Vet initial topic list by estimating the market demand, competition level, and viability of creating a full course on each one. Remove any unsuitable options.
- [ ] Sign up for a free Udemy instructor account to access market research tools.
- [ ] Use Udemy's Marketplace Insights tool to thoroughly research demand, competition, subtopics, search volume, student demographics, and more for each topic.
- [ ] Based on Marketplace Insights data, shortlist 5 topics that have high demand (5000+ searches), low competition (<20 competing courses), and interest you.
- [ ] Vet each shortlisted topic further by studying the content, reviews, and metrics (students, ratings, revenue etc) of the top 5 bestselling courses in each topic.
- [ ] Compile data on strengths of current top courses to emulate as well as weaknesses and gaps you can improve upon
- [ ] Review instructor profiles for top courses and analyze their qualifications, teaching styles, credibility etc.
- [ ] Choose your top course topic by comparing demand, competition, ability to differentiate, and your credentials compared to current top instructors.
- [ ] Use ChatGPT to generate at least 10 creative potential titles for your course that includes relevant keywords.
- [ ] Choose the most compelling course title. Create a new Udemy course using this title to claim it.
Part 2 Course Structure
- [ ] Decide your ideal total course length based on your goals, Udemy's pricing tiers, and lengths of top competing courses. Don't make your course too short or long.
- [ ] Determine the number of sections your course will be organized into based on the complexity of the topic and lengths of top competitors' curriculums.
